Learn how to make a leather journal cover from start to finish in a small, hands-on workshop focused on traditional leather working techniques.
This class takes place at the Alisa Craig Arts Center, where you’ll be guided through each step of the process — from cutting out the components from a hide of leather, through dyeing and stamping the leather, to gluing and stitching the journal together. You’ll be working with your hands throughout, using well-established techniques to shape, assemble, and finish your piece. No experience is necessary, and all tools and materials, including leather, thread, needles, dye, hardware, and a blank journal, are provided.
This is a small-group class with an emphasis on attention to detail and individual guidance. You’ll leave with a finished journal cover, a blank journal insert, and a clear understanding of the techniques used to make it.
Kasper Skinner is a Canadian leather craftsman, designer, and teacher. He hand-crafts a variety of leather goods and has been working with leather for over ten years.
*There is a kit fee is $40 per student, which includes leather, thread, hardware and other materials. This is paid to the instructor in cash on the day of the workshop.
