Let There Be Even More Stitches!

Class is suitable for all ages and anyone interested in learning about embroidery. Attendance at the first session is not a pre-requisite for this fun course taught by respected needlewoman, Jess Blackmore.

Over three leisurely, Thursday afternoons this course will expand upon your  experience with embroidery and make you comfortable with more complex ideas and patterns. This is the place to come if you found the introductory course exciting or if you have an interest in learning embroidery.

Picking up from where our foundation course “Let there be Stitches” left off, this course will help to secure the student’s skills and craft. You will be exposed to more complex stitches, more ways of visualizing the final project, using color and design. You will learn:

  •  12 common embroidery stitches and some of their variations;
  • How to transfer a pattern to fabric;
  • How to do basic design and modify those basic designs;
  • How to finish a project.

The student will complete a piece that is usually called a “needle-book,” that allows you to sort and store needles. These needle books can be very beautiful pieces of work for you or as a gift for stitching friends.

In addition to the cost of the course, there is a kit fee payable on day 1 directly to the teacher. Kit includes: all materials and threads necessary to complete an informal stitch sampler and the needle-book.

Artists/ Teacher's Bio:

Jess Blackmore has been in love with textiles, colors and patterns all her life. Thi s passion propelled her to work at both the Shaw and Stratford festival wardrobes for over ten years. During that time she also fell in love with knitting, tatting, lace-making, crochet and quilting. A number of these she has taught herself and is happiest when solving artistic problems of color, texture, pattern, composition and design. Her background in theatrical costume building has made her love every kind of textile art. Please come and share her passion for these wonderful forms of expression. You really can do this even if you’re convinced that you can’t.
